Several press reports revealed that former coach of the Egyptian national team, Carlos Queiroz, was close to take charge of the coaching staff of the Iraqi national team in the coming period.

Reports stated that the Iraqi Football Association started negotiations secretly with the Portuguese coach to lead the Rafidain Lions in the next four years.

It added that the negotiations between the Iraqi Federation and Queiroz have reached an advanced stage, and that things are going smoothly, and all that remains is to sign the official contract.

A number of Iraqi newspapers indicated that the negotiations were not a result of today, but rather took place secretly between the two parties about a month ago, explaining that Queiroz had agreed to train the Iraqi team, but some simple details remained that will be agreed upon soon.

The reports confirmed that the Iraqi Federation insisted on contracting Queiroz because he is one of the international coaches who knows well Arab and Asian football because of his leadership of the Iranian team for a very long time, explaining that Queiroz also received offers from the teams of Australia, Tunisia and Iran to train one of them, but it seems that the chances of the Iraqi team is the highest at the moment.

The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Association held a meeting at the headquarters of the Federation earlier this week, and the Council praised the great effort made by Carlos Queiroz, coach of the Egyptian national team and his assistant staff during the last period, in which the team reached the final match in the African Cup of Nations, as well as the final qualifiers stage for the 2022 World Cup.

After the session, the Board of Directors of the Federation decided to thank Carlos Queiroz, coach of the Egyptian national team, after the two parties agreed to terminate the contract by mutual consent.
