The 2022 International Booker Prize announced the long list of competing novels on 10 March. The list includes 13 novels, which were all translated into English.

In its official statement, the award revealed that the novels that reached this stage have been translated into English from 11 languages and come from 12 countries across four continents.

For the first time, novels in the Indian language compete for the award.

This year’s longlist includes past winners Olga Tokarczuk, Jennifer Croft, David Grossman and Jessica Cohen, along with first-time English-translated authors.

In addition, the longlist was dominated by independent publishing houses, which pursue global fiction in order to introduce it to English-speaking readers, including the British publishing house Tilted Axis founded by Deborah Smith, former winner of the International Man Booker Prize.
