Egypt welcomed a UN Security Council resolution on Yemen and its condemnation of the Iran-backed Houthis’ cross-border attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), demanding an immediate halt to these attacks.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Ahmed Hafez — the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the extension of measures and sanctions imposed by the Security Council resolutions related to the Yemeni crisis.

Egypt also welcomed the expansion of the arms embargo on Yemen as well as the condemnation of attacks against civilian and commercial vessels and the seizure of some of them off the coast of Yemen.

Hafez added that the country looks forward to a resolution contributing to the cessation of hostilities and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians as well as pushing forward the political solution to the protracted Yemen crisis and supporting the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen.

This is based on the relevant Security Council resolutions, the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanisms, and the outputs of the comprehensive national dialogue in a way that preserves the unity, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen and protects the capabilities and aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people towards security, stability, and prosperity.
