The Egyptian Exchange’s (EGX) Foundation for Sustainable Development signed a cooperation protocol with DCarbon Environmental Consulting — the regional representative of the Global Initiative for Sustainability Reporting — to launch a comprehensive training programme for companies whose securities are listed on the EGX.

The programme involves preparing environmental and societal disclosure reports on sustainability and climate change, it also includes representatives of all listed companies and will be implemented on several stages, starting this month.

Each stage includes about 30 companies and will run for two days. The companies will help develop trainees’ capabilities and enhance their knowledge of the latest foundations and principles for preparing sustainability reports in various sectors.

The step is done in light of the Egyptian state hosting the United Nations Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP 27) in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022 and is in line with the government’s vision to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) in accordance with Egypt’s 2030 Vision.

This also supports the EGX’s efforts to support companies that are listed on it and activates its role in sustainable development.

Mohamed Farid, the Head of the EGX, said that its management adopted a comprehensive vision to support and develop the capabilities of companies whose securities are listed on it on how to prepare disclosure reports on sustainability activities as well as their effects on climate change.

Farid added that the training programme enhances the involvement of listed companies in sustainability activities and raises their efficiency in preparing and building reports for their disclosure. This will eventually support the efforts of the Egyptian state in achieving its 2030 Vision for sustainable development.

CEO of DCarbon Ehab Shalaby — who is also the regional representative of the Global Initiative for the Preparation of Sustainability Reports in Egypt, the Middle East, and the Arab region — said that the cooperation protocol aims to develop the capabilities of companies whose securities are listed on the EGX’s tables to adopt sustainable business models and prepare sustainability reports in accordance with the most effective global standards.
