Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad and Minister of Expatriate Affairs Nabila Makram held a coordination meeting in the framework of preparing for the sixth edition of the ‘Egypt Can’ conference series under the slogan ‘Egypt can with industry.’

During the meeting, Fouad stressed her ministry’s readiness to provide support and participate in the sessions of the sixth edition of the Egypt Can Conferences, and to work on preparing for Egypt’s hosting of the UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP 27) in order to present Egypt appropriately with regard to the industry profile.

She further highlighted the importance of carrying out a green industry session during the Egypt Can with Industry Conference to review the Egyptian government’s efforts in this field, as Egypt is preparing a general framework for green transformation that includes all the strategies that have been implemented so far.

The governmental efforts in this regard included the green tourism strategy that the environment ministry is preparing to launch in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the strategy for eliminating single-use plastic bags, the completed construction and demolition strategy, and the cleaner production strategy that the ministry launched eight years ago.

Moreover, Fouad explained that there is a new trend in dealing with industrial facilities, and there are encouraging facilities and incentives to be given to these companies to support them to become environmentally compatible, which contributes to helping these factories produce a product that can be exported abroad in a way that competes with global markets.

She further noted that these measures will contribute to determining the amount of emissions and the quantification of their impact on climate change, adding that the idea of a green industry was implemented by many organisations and achieved great successes.
