Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anany issued a decision obligating all hotel and tourist establishments in Sharm El-Sheikh to obtain international certification stating that they operate using green practices in accordance with the concept of sustainable tourism.

It is decided that the companies and establishments addressed by the provisions of this decision shall adjust their positions in accordance with its provisions within a deadline of six months from the date of its implementation.

This decision comes within the framework of preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the 27th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 27) in Sharm El-Sheikh this year, and in light of the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities towards transforming the Egyptian tourism sector into an environmentally friendly sector.

This strategy comes in line with the objectives of the sustainable development strategy of the ministry and Egypt’s 2030 Vision to maintain ecological balance and the sustainability of tourism and archaeological activity, encourage the transition towards a green economy, and spread environmentally friendly practices.
