Abdel Ghaffar, Swedish ambassador discuss cooperation in health sector

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population, met with Swedish Ambassador to Egypt Hokan Emsjord to discuss strengthening means of cooperation between Egypt and Sweden in the health sector.

In a statement on Monday, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Official Spokesperson for the Health Ministry, explained that the meeting discussed expanding the horizons of cooperation between Egypt and Sweden in the field of producing biological preparations by increasing investment opportunities for major Swedish companies working in the medical field within the Egyptian market, which contributes to meeting the needs of Africa.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the two sides stressed the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences in the field of combating infectious diseases and addressing pandemics, especially the coronavirus pandemic. They also stressed the need to share experiences between the two countries in the fields of health care technology.

He further noted that the minister discussed with the Swedish ambassador cooperation in the fields of scientific research by providing opportunities to send educational missions of Egyptian doctors to Sweden to obtain grants in master’s and PhD degrees, especially in the fields of data collection and analysis, as well as to benefit from Swedish expertise in technological systems in the medical sector.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the possibility of signing agreements between Sweden and the newly established university hospitals in Egypt’s universities, as Sweden is a leading country in the medical field and has many contributions to medical research. It also owns many distinguished medical institutions that contribute to enriching scientific research worldwide.

Abdel Ghaffar also mentioned discussions regarding the continuation of cooperation between Egypt and Sweden in operating the Gamma Knife Centre, which was established in cooperation with the Swedish side at the Nasser Institute Hospital in Cairo to carry out radiation surgery for the treatment of brain tumours and train medical staff.
