Health Minister reviews COVID-19 infection situation, vaccine rollout

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed reviewed the developments of the current situation of the novel coronavirus infection rates, and the rollout and local manufacture of vaccines.

During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the Minister of Health highlighted the urgent need to strengthen manufacturing capabilities in the medical field, especially with regard to diagnostic tools, oxygen, treatment, medical supplies and anti-viral vaccines. 

She also stressed that Egypt is working on this, and harnessing its capabilities to enhance manufacturing capabilities.

Zayed noted that the total number of those who received the first dose of these vaccinations reached more than 13 million citizens until Monday, while the number of citizens who received the second dose exceeded 7 million citizens. 

She pointing out that the ministry is racing against time to finish vaccinating the remaining numbers of employees in the state’s administrative apparatus, as well as those belonging to the public, Azhar and higher education sectors, stressing at the same time that there was an increase in vaccinations at the end of September, which amounted to 18.4%.

Moreover, the minister added that her ministry has taken various measures to facilitate the reception of vaccinations for students and citizens at youth centers directly without the need for pre-registration, noting also that 240 centres are allocated at the governorate level to serve university students.

Regarding the manufacture of vaccines, Zayed said that the production of 10 million doses of Sinovac-VACSERA will be completed, and 7 million doses will be released this week, noting that the total of the various vaccines that have been supplied so far has reached about 60 million doses.
