Arab League’s Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League , affirmed the pan-Arab bloc’s continued solidarity with Lebanon and its support for the Lebanese people in their plight.

Aboul Gheit said, in a press statement on Saturday, that he listened to Lebanon’s Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati’s appeal to the League to continue supporting Lebanon.

He added that he appreciates this appeal, and that he had previously contacted Mikati, wishing him success in forming a government.

Aboul Gheit stressed that expediting the formation of a government that will undertake the immediate implementation of the necessary reforms is necessary. He indicated that this will enable the Arab and international community to effectively engage in saving Lebanon and support the Lebanese people to get out of this dark tunnel they are going through.

He added, “I wish Mikati success in addressing the obstacles placed in the way of forming the government, which have not been overcome for more than a year, unfortunately.”
