Osama Abdel Khalek, Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union (AU), has signed Egypt’s accession to the statute establishing the African Medicines Agency.

Abdel Khalek said, on Wednesday, that the new African body will play a pivotal role in promoting public health in the continent, whilst responding to diseases and epidemics.

He added that Egypt is an African leader in the field of pharmaceutical industries, including with regard to the current localisation of manufacturing vaccines against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He indicated that Egypt will continue its spread in this field, particularly in support of fair and equitable access to medicines and serums for Africa.
