Egypt’s Finance Ministry, Huawei discuss support for digital transformation

Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait and Terry He, President of Huawei Northern Africa Region, have met to discuss the company’s interest in supporting digital transformation.

This comes as part of the state’s continued implementation of its digital transformation plan in the financial sector, in conjunction with the gradual transition to “Digital Egypt”. It is also in accordance with the latest international standards and experiences.

Maait said that Egypt is continuing to strengthen governance of the financial system, adding that the country aims to raise the efficiency of financial performance. This will take place through the expansion in technological solutions, in cooperation with many partners.

The minister added that the Egyptian Government is keen to develop specialised industries in the field of information technology (IT), as one of the tributaries of economic development, to improve the business climate and stimulate investors. It also aims, during the next stage, to expand the provision of mechanised services to citizens.

He added that all government agencies are cooperating in order to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development in various sectors, in the implementation of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

For his part, Terry He noted Huawei’s interest in developing its fields of work in Egypt, and praised the country’s unprecedented achievements in various fields during the era of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

He also noted that the IT sector has seen a boom in digital transformation projects, and increased reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) applications and solutions in various government sectors.
