Osama Rabie, Head of Suez Canal Authority (SCA), has asserted Egypt’s keenness to maximise the benefits of the Suez Canal, through comprehensive development projects.

Rabie’s remarks came during his meeting with a high-level Pakistani delegation, headed by the Chairperson of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Committee of the Pakistan Army, Lieutenant-General Nadeem Raza.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to jointly cooperate, whilst Rabie expressed his appreciation for the long-standing historical relations between Egypt and Pakistan.

He reviewed the latest developments in the work on the navigational waterway development projects recently adopted by the SCA.

Rabie’s particular focus was on the project to develop the canal’s southern sector, which includes expanding and deepening the Suez Canal’s southern region.

He stressed that the incident involving the giant container ship, the Ever Given, was an exceptional and unprecedented accident.

Despite the complexity of the situation, the blockage caused by the ship demonstrated the canal’s importance to the whole world. It also highlighted Egypt’s ability to overcome challenges and manage this vital navigation facility efficiently in various circumstances, he explained.

Moreover, Raza hailed the efforts made by the SCA to continuously develop the waterway, praising the role of the Authority’s men in the flotation of the Ever Given.

He asserted that the Suez Canal is one of the man-made wonders of the world, and expressed his great interest in visiting it as part of his visit to Egypt. Raza and the accompanying delegation have also headed for a sea tour to the new Suez Canal.
