Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received Libya’s new Head of Government Abdel Hamid Dbeiba, on Thursday.

The meeting took place in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Head of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel, according to a statement by Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Dbeiba expressed his honour at meeting President Al-Sisi, and expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s sincere and effective efforts for resolving the Libyan crisis during the past period. These efforts, he noted, have resulted in the convergence of views between Libyans and have ended the state of division.

He said that Libya also appreciates Egyptian efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis and support for the country’s institutions to combat terrorism.

Dbeiba also affirmed that the Libyan government and people are looking forward to establishing a comprehensive partnership with Egypt, with the aim of reproducing successful examples of its inspiring development experience of the recent past.

He noted that this has taken place under the leadership and vision of President Al-Sisi, especially with regard to restoring security and stability and launching the development and reform process.

For his part, Al-Sisi welcomed Dbeiba and congratulated him again for obtaining the confidence of the members of the Libyan Forum for Political Dialogue (LPDF). The Egyptian President noted that this is a promising beginning for a new phase in which all Libyan state institutions work in harmony and unified in a way that raises the national interest above any considerations.

Al-Sisi stressed Egypt’s keenness to continue supporting the Libyan people to complete the mechanisms of managing their country, and install the foundations of peace and stability to preserve their capabilities and activate their will.

He also said that the current stage requires Libya to mobilise all the efforts and arms of its loyal people to prioritise action in various fields. This will start with restoring security, and consolidating the pillars of the state.

It will end with the initiation of service and development projects that have a direct impact on the brotherly Libyan people.

Al-Sisi stressed Egypt’s full readiness to provide all its expertise and experience in serving Libya, in a way that contributes to putting Libya on the right track and preparing the state to launch prospects for construction, development, and stability.

The meeting witnessed a review of Libyan efforts during the coming period to lead the transitional phase. It also reviewed the prospects for cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries to support the Libyan side in the historical responsibility in that period.

It was agreed to exchange visits at the level of executive officials to transfer expertise and experience to the Libyan side and to look at areas where cooperation may take place. This is especially at the level of services and restoring security, as well as economic cooperation, and training Libyans in various fields.
