$3.4bn project to meet fuel needs in Upper Egypt: Petroleum Minister

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, has asserted that the high-octane petrol and diesel production complex in Assiut governorate, with a total investment of about $3.4bn, will meet fuel needs of Upper Egypt in the coming period.

The Minister’s remarks came during his inspection of the project’s trial operation on Thursday.

El Molla praised the fruitful cooperation between the Ministry and the governorate in implementing the project despite the challenges posed by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The Assiut complex was executed by the Engineering for Petroleum and Process Industries Company (Enppi), as a general contractor, the Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (Petrojet), and the Assiut National Oil Processing Company (ANOPC).

The Minister added, in a statement, that the new project’s production capacity of is estimated at about 800,000 tonnes of high-octane petrol and about 2.8m tonnes of diesel annually. In addition, the complex will produce 400,000 tonnes of naphtha; 100,000 tonnes of LPG; 300,000 tonnes of coal, and 66,000 tonnes of sulphur.
