The Supreme Committee for Nile Water reviewed the water situation in Egypt and possible mechanisms of water management to meet the demand of different sectors, and maximise resources.
The committee’s Monday meeting, presided by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aaty, discussed the flood forecasts and the ministry’s efforts within the framework of a comprehensive vision aimed at meeting all sectors’ needs of water.
Abdel Aaty explained that the ministry has succeeded in managing the water system with the highest level of efficiency, which was reflected in the achievement of the lowest rate of water complaints in 40 years.
During the meeting, Abdel Aaty reviewed the ministry’s procedures and plans to manage the period of fewer water needs, and scenarios for dealing with the period of maximum needs, in conjunction with the beginning of the next water year.
He stressed that these plans should be carried out with the highest degree of efficiency in a way that allows the water resources system to meet the water needs of the agricultural season during the next summer.
Moreover, theSupreme Committee for Nile Water reviewed the procedures for dealing with the rainy season and floods, and the situation of under-establishment projects to protect residential areas from floods.
Abdel Aaty stressed the necessity of removing the violations on the Nile River, and to take all necessary legal measures in this regard.
