Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said has approved financial allocations for the implementation and completion of vital social and environmental projects in Siwa , Alexandria, and Habata.

El-Said approved a total of EGP 69.67m to reinforce the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy’s plan for fiscal year (FY) 2020/21, to implement the electrical supply works for the desalination plant at Habata Airport.

El-Said also agreed to allocate EGP 80m to the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities to face hazards caused by the heavy rainfall in Alexandria governorate. This will enable Alexandria’s sewage company to procure some equipment and vehicles needed to deal with the consequences of the crisis temporarily.

The set of financial appropriations included EGP 15m allocated to the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities. This will go towards expansion of a sewage treatment plant in Hubail with a capacity of 36,000 cubic metre per day.

This is in addition to the approval of EGP 200m to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to implement the first phase of a project to develop new wells, and water and drainage systems in Siwa oasis. This will allow for 5,000 feddan to be cultivated.

El-Said said that all the approved sums come as part of the ministry’s keenness to respond quickly to demands and projects that serve citizens in the first place. It also works to provide the necessary support to state authorities to face challenges.

She added that the amount approved for Alexandria comes in support of the governorate’s sanitation system to cope with the torrential rains.
