Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting, on Thursday, to review opportunities to support and enhance tripartite cooperation between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.

The meeting took place via video conference, in the presence of a number of ministers and the President of the Federation of Egyptian Banks (FEB).

The Prime Minister said that Thursday’s meeting comes as a continuation of recent and ongoing meetings that have brought together the leaders of Egypt, Jordan and Iraq. During the meetings, it has been agreed that work to increase the joint cooperation framework between the three countries is needed.

This will also work to identify a number of areas and sectors to start implementing priority projects for citizens of the three countries. At the same time, recent meetings between the three sides have highlighted the need to finalise the list of proposed projects, in preparation for presenting them in a comprehensive report to Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Madbouly said that there has been communication and coordination between concerned ministers in the three countries to agree on a number of proposed projects for cooperation in various sectors during the coming period. This has resulted in agreements in principle on several cooperation projects, in addition to a set of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to be signed during the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee’s work, scheduled to be held soon.

For his part, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar addressed a number of proposed projects in the construction sector. He highlighted methods of maximising the capabilities and experiences between the three countries.

During the meeting, Egypt’s Minister of Education Tarek Shawky touched on the aspects of joint cooperation between the three countries that have been studied, especially in the field of teacher training. He also discussed the benefits of participating in digital content, as well as the Egyptian examination system.

Nevine Gamea, Minister of Trade and Industry, pointed to previous communication her Jordanian and Iraqi counterparts, with the aim of enhancing joint aspects of cooperation. This has particularly focused on establishing industrial complexes, with the minister adding that coordination has taken place between the relevant industry federations, to gather manufacturers willing to cooperate in specific sectors that represent a priority for the brothers in Iraq and Jordan, to speed up the implementation Their projects.
