Egypt Transport Minister follows up on World Bank-financed railway signalling modernisation

Egypt Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir has met with World Bank officials, via videoconference, to follow up on the cooperation agreement between the two sides for financing the country’s railway signalling modernisation project.

According to the ministry’s Thursday statement, the project covers the Cairo / Giza / Beni Suef railway line with a length of 125 km. The meeting also discussed the progress of other joint projects.

El Wazir stressed the importance of cooperation with the World Bank in various transport sectors, especially the railways, for which he set a plan to develop since he has assumed has position as Minister of Transport.

The minister also highlighted the importance of modernising Egypt’s railway signalling as it would ensure safety and security of railway trips, praising the great role of the World Bank in supporting service projects in Egypt.

Noteworthy, the two sides are also cooperating on the railway signalling modernisation of the Alexandria / Cairo / High Dam railway line.
