Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inspected, on Saturday, various ongoing projects at the New Administrative Capital (NAC), according to a Cabinet statement.

During the inspection, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Housing, Utilities and New Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar, ministry officials, as well as representatives from the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

At the beginning of the visit, Madbouly held a meeting with the officials to discuss the challenges the national project faces, the foremost of which is the commitment to the implementation timetable.

Madbouly confirmed the need to finish paving work on main roads and the planting of trees and vegetation at the NAC, which will add a pleasing aesthetic to the new urban community.

The Prime Minister was also briefed by New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) Vice-President Abdul Muttalib Mamdouh on the utility works that have taken place as part of the NAC’s first phase.

Mamdouh said that the 19km long water line project, running from the 10th of Ramadan City water station to an accumulation tank feeding the NAC, has been completed at a cost of EGP 285m. He also said that work on the station and the 100,000 cbm capacity water tanks have been completed.

Mamdouh added that work on the 16km long water line running from the accumulation tank to the strategic reservoirs is now in its advanced stages, and that 99% of the electrical works on the project have been carried out.

A total of 80% of the water network feeding the NAC’s government area have been implemented, while 93% of the sewage network has been completed, Mamdouh said. He added that 95% of the rain drainage network has been completed, whilst all ministry buildings have been connected to the electricity network.

During his visit to the NAC, Madbouly inspected the government district which is located on an area of 1.5 million sqm, equivalent to 360 acres. Of this area, facilities occupy 250,000 sqm, with a total building area of 2 million sqm that has seen a construction rate of 20%. The rest of the area will be devoted to greenery and roads, the cabinet statement said.

The government neighbourhood project at the NAC includes 10 ministerial complexes, which will house a total of 34 ministries. The cabinet and parliament buildings, as well as a main axis running through the government area, will also be constructed in the area.

Madbouly was briefed by Arab Organization for Industralization (AOI) head, Abdel Moneim El-Terras, on the furnishing that will be provided to the government district buildings. The AOI will undertake the furnishing work, alongside 20 private companies, a project that will provide about 100,000 job opportunities.

Official sources say that 87% of the government neighbourhood has now been completed, with all construction work on the buildings having been completed.
