The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) has extended power generation and distribution licences of five companies.

EgyptERA has extended the power generation licence of Midor Electric Company (MIDELEC) for a year. It has also renewed power distribution licences of Madinaty Electromechanical Energy and Tropi 2 for Tourism Development.

The agency has also decided to add the Al-Murshidi Mall project in Sheikh Zayed to the geographical scope in which Consukorra for Trade Agencies and Technical Consultations operates.

EgyptERA CEO, Mohamed Abdel Rahman, told Daily News Egypt that several companies have applied for a licence to distribute and produce energy, but these remain under discussion.

Abdel Rahman said that EgyptERA is responsible for monitoring electricity production and distribution companies and consumers, and remains committed to monitoring activities in the field.

He emphasised that the agency has approved the National Company for Youth Housing’s licence to distribute electricity as part of its Sheikh Zayed project. A five-year licence for electrical energy distribution has also been granted to the Arab Development and Housing Company. This comes within as part of the Capital Business Park and Atrium Sheikh Zayed, and is valid until 30 June 2025.
