German multinational pharmaceutical company, Bayer, extended its partnership with the charity foundation “Sona3 Alkheir” to support the latter’s healthcare initiative Hemaya (Protection).

The initiative aims to raise awareness of precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and good hygiene habits, especially among underprivileged families.

The initiative was launched under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

Samer Lezzaiq, Managing Director of Bayer – Egypt, said, “In such challenging times, we look for ways to dedicate more efforts for the service of the community. Through “Hemaya” we are able to support the Egyptian government in their attempts to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease, in addition to reaching families and individuals that are in need to sustain their wellbeing during these tough circumstances.”

Bayer’s role in the initiative includes providing hygienic kits of gloves, face masks, and alcohol sterilisers. In addition, along with Sona3 Alkheir, Bayer raises awareness of health protection measures against Covid-19, as well as provides sanitising services to households in poor villages.

Hany Abdel-Fattah, Executive Director of Sona3 Alkheir, said Bayer has been among the companies that prioritise social responsibility activities, which is of great importance for Egypt in these hard times.

He added that Bayer endorses charity services that improve the livelihood of the underprivileged. This highly serves the aims of the initiative that looks into ways to reach those who suffer from the events that Egypt and the world are facing now due to the coronavirus.

Earlier in March, Bayer announced another partnership with the foundation for a public health programme to raise awareness on the early detection of cardiovascular and ophthalmology diseases. In addition, the partnership dedicated huge efforts to raise awareness on the importance of women’s health and family planning.
