Egypt’s Fund for Drug Control and the Treatment of Addiction (FDCTA) participated in the activities of the 63rd session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) of the United Nations which was held last week in Vienna, Austria.

Ghada Wali, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, has inaugurated the session’s activities with the participation of delegations from 133 countries with 1,560 participants, 97 civil institutions, and 17 national and international organisations.

On the sidelines of the committee’s meetings, the FDCTA organised an exhibition in order to show the best practices of Egypt’s experience in countering narcotic sales, early prevention, advocacy, and media campaigns, providing treatment according to international standards, providing rehabilitation, recovery and social reintegration services for drug users and addicts.

The exhibit was mainly concerned with Egyptian efforts related to combating drug addiction. The FDCTA and other national mechanisms to combat illicit drug use have garnered major achievements. The exhibition will offer a guide on advocacy and media campaigns, especially after the successful campaign with famous professional football player Mohamed Salah.

The exhibition also provided information on drugs in Egypt and presented projects concerning volunteerism and early prevention in all societal institutions especially family and educational institutions. Studies and brochures were available, documentaries, and photographs of these activities were also displayed.
