The Ministry of Health announced on Saturday its preventive plan against infectious diseases in educational facilities, coinciding with the beginning of the second semester of the current school year.

In a statement, Khaled Mogahed, the official spokesperson of the Ministry, said that the plan included the completion of training medical teams on how to combat infectious diseases, details of precautionary and preventive methods against any infectious disease, and the process of early detection and reporting of suspects of any epidemic disease.

As part of the strategy, the ministry will follow up health visitors to schools during the morning queue, visiting classrooms and ensuring no infectious diseases appear among students. The ministry’s procedures also include taking all preventive measures inside schools, including ensuring the availability of clean water, toilet soaps, and urging washing hands.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health will provide informational posters encouraging health practices, and guidelines for preventive methods against infectious diseases at schools.

Mogahed said if any student is found infected or suspected of any disease, they will be immediately isolated in the observation rooms designated in each school, before receiving  medical treatment and follow-up visits until their recovery. Those in contact with those infected will also receive follow up to ensure non-transmission.

He pointed out that the plan also includes a commitment to clean classrooms, in addition to educating teachers of the necessary health procedures for dealing with infectious diseases and promoting healthy behaviour that prevents transmission, stressing the need to inform the Health Directorate of any suspected cases of any infectious disease.
