The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) intends to discuss a unified regulation for the electricity supply at low and medium voltage in its next meeting on 2 February.
A source from the agency told Daily News Egypt that electricity distribution companies were conducting standardised measurements up to 5000 kVA, but each company had its own rules for transformer stations, contracting capabilities and measurements, and procedures and rules.
He pointed out that the procedures to be issued will include managing the transformer room, the cost of electricity delivered to the facility, determining the area and capacity of facilities, and preparing electrical supply measurements.
The documents that must be provided for electricity subscription contract are a photocopy of the main electrical supply measurements within the property, and the commitment of distribution companies to the attachments in the manual for electrical feeding for residential facilities in villages and cities, in force since 2007.
Distribution companies will also be committed to considering the rules and regulations of cutting electric feeds and take into account the technical rules in connecting and providing contractual capabilities for the participants while applying the rules of equality and fairness in dealing with similar centres.
The cost of connecting electricity to residential establishments is calculated on the basis of the total area of a building’s floor plan at the time of the request’s submission, on the condition that the applicant provides an acknowledgement of payment obligation for the connection costs of constructing additional floors.
