Minister of Tourism, Rania Al-Mashat, expected her ministry to launch Egyptian Influencers Summit (EIS) promotional campaign over the first half of 2019.
“Egypt is branding itself, yet few people knows facts about the country that is why we are keen on increasing our presence internationally and launch successful marketing and promotion campaigns to change Egypt’s stereotype abroad,” Al-Mashat added during her speech at an event organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham) on Thursday.
The tourism ministry will inaugurate the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in 2020, affirmed Al-Mashat, adding that GEM will be a fantastic place where many historical monuments will exist with the pyramids in the background.
Additionally, Al-Mashat said that her ministry is implementing a structure reform programme to push the sector forward, noting that this programme includes five main pillars which are institutions reform, promotion, infrastructure, tourism development, global tourism trends, and legislative reforms.
“Achieving the tourism sector’ success requires development of human resources and infrastructure,” Al-Mashat noted, adding that her ministry is cooperating with the education and higher education ministries to ensure that the tourism curriculum are updated and align with the tourism sector’s needs and ethics.
Al-Mashat said that her ministry is also coordinating with international institutions to fill the gab of the expertise in Egypt, including the World Committee on Tourism Ethics for increasing the sector competitiveness through an intensive programme.
The minister pointed out that the sector’s legislative framework needs to be updated as the law was approved since 1970, adding “we need to take a look in the current laws in cooperation with business community and parliament.”
