Dozens of Palestinians were wounded on Friday at the border between Gaza and Israel, as the Israeli army opened live ammunition to disperse Palestinian protests against relocating the US embassy to Jerusalem. The inauguration of the US embassy was held on 14 May.
Thousands of people engaged in the demonstrations in the Gaza Strip. The series of protests, dubbed the Great Return March, started on 30 March to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of Land Day, demanding the return of refugees to their homes that they were evacuated from when Israel was established in 1948.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Israel gave a green light to Israeli forces to use extensive force against Palestinians. The court unanimously rejected two petitions brought by human rights groups demanding Israel’s army stop using snipers and live ammunition against unarmed Palestinian protesters in the Gaza Strip.
Moreover, the summit of Muslim heads of state called last week for creating a peacekeeping force to protect the Palestinian people. The summit, which was held in Istanbul, Turkey, also called for taking measures for preventing any country from relocating its capital to Jerusalem.
Health officials in Gaza announced that 113 people were killed since the beginning of the protests.
The supreme national committee for the Great Return March said on Friday that next Friday’s protests will be dubbed “From Gaza to Haifa….one blood and mutual destiny”.
