Following the success witnessed in its first round, the second edition of El-Gouna Film Festival was announced on Sunday to kick off in September.

In a press release, the founding committee of El-Gouna Film Festival announced that the second edition of the festival would start on 20 September and run until 28 September in Egypt’s El-Gouna resort town, located near Hurghada in the Red Sea governorate.

Founded by Egyptian brothers Naguib and Samih Sawiris, the first edition of the film festival displayed an outstanding thriving of the cultural scene in Egypt.

“The exceptional success of the first edition of El-Gouna Film Festival has reinforced our confidence, and we hope that the next edition will bear all the factors that contributed to that success,” said the founding and executive committee of the El-Gouna Film Festival.

“Our success [will] push us to expand our efforts, stimulate our agility, and organise ourselves as we maintain our high standard of choice for films, programmes, and guests,” the statement added.

The festival kicked off with the aim of creating a common platform among young artists in the Middle East and their international counterparts.

Seventy-four films from 42 countries participated in the first edition, which was themed “Cinema for Humanity”. The closing ceremony of the first round was attended by iconic Hollywood stars such as Forrest Whitaker, Oliver Stone, and Vanessa Williams.
