High demand on Egyptian pavilion at Astana Expo 2017

Egyptian pavilion’s visitors reached 612,000 visitors from different nationalities, 22% of the Expo’s visitors

The Egyptian pavilion participating in the expo activities witnessed an unprecedented turnout by the visitors of the Expo, according to Ahmed Taha, commissioner general of Egypt to the Astana Expo.

Taha said that the number of visitors to the Egyptian pavilion since the opening of the exhibition on 10 of June reached 612,000 visitors from different nationalities, out of a total of 2.8 million visitors of the Expo, with a rate of 22%.

Taha noted that the Egyptian pavilion occupies a distinguished position within the pavilions participating in the Expo.

He pointed out that this turnout of visitors, which is the highest compared to the previous participations to Egypt at the Expo reflects the magnificence of the design of the Egyptian pavilion, which was the main attraction of the visitors where old history, present, and future were mixed.

Astana Expo 2017 was kicked-off on 10 June in Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Expo, which is taking place on a site covering 250,000 sqm, will be open to the public until 10 September 2017.

The Egyptian pavilion includes 22 pieces of Antiques from the Museum of Islamic Art, all of which date back to the Mamluk period of Sultan Baybars.

The Republic of Kazakhstan will bear the costs of transportation, shipping, and packaging of antiquities and their return to Egyptian lands, in addition to the insurance value of antiquities worth $340,000.

The Ministry of Antiques stated that the establishment of an external exhibition of Islamic monuments at this time is a confirmation of the ministry’s keenness to increase its financial resources and implementation of its plan to restore the movement of tourism to Egypt. Furthermore, the ministry aims to spread the Egyptian civilisation with its various Pharaonic, Islamic, and Coptic periods to most countries of the world.
