Prime minister Sherif Ismail opened the new food fair “Ahlan Ramadan”, which provides food and related products at affordable prices to help the poorest segments of society to be able to afford buying food during Ramadan.

The fair is taking place between 22 and 26 May at Cairo’s International Fair Zone.

According to a press statement issued on Monday, more than 200 companies are participating in the fair and provide their products at affordable prices. Additionally, the minister of industry and the minster of supplies, as well as the governor of Cairo, attended the opening along with the prime minister.

Ismail stated that many other similar fairs opened around Egypt, adding that the number of fairs that provide food around Egypt is 122. The fairs’ durations might be extended if the demand justifies it, said the prime minister according to the statement.

He also added that the quality of products is high, adding that many state-owned companies have returned to provide their products in the fair.

He believes that during the next period, the government must focus on providing food directly to governmental stores to shorten the long way between production and the consumer.

The prime minister noted that the government has allocated approximately EGP 70bn to subsidize the necessary goods of food products, adding that the government will import extra amounts of meat, poultry, and fish to meet the demand, which is likely to increase during Ramadan.
