The military spokesperson announced on Monday that forces from the second army arrested 22 suspects in North Sinai and destroyed tunnels suspected of being used by militants.

Those arrested were suspected of having participated in militant operations in North Sinai, according to the statement.

The destroyed tunnels were reported to be in the south of Rafah. The statement added that the forces confiscated communications and electricity tools.

North Sinai has been witnessing clashes between militants and members of the Al-Tarabin tribe, with reports of deaths, injuries, and kidnappings. The report and pictures of the clashes are only published by both conflicting sides; meanwhile, the Egyptian state hasn’t published any information about the incident.

For example, on 2 May, Al-Tarabin announced that eight alleged militants were killed in clashes with its members, while two tribesmen were injured. Two days earlier, a woman had been killed and her husband and two of her sons had been kidnapped from Rafah by militants suspected to be from Sinai Province.
