The Islamic State (IS)-affiliated group “Sinai Province” published on Sunday evening photos of the recent attack on the Al Gaz army checkpoint in the southwest of Al-Arish city in North Sinai.

The photos were circulated through IS-affiliated news website of Dawlet Al Haq, and showed “Sinai Province” militants raiding an armoured personnel carrier (APC) near the checkpoint. The photos purport to show the militants approaching the APC, killing a conscript on it, taking full control of the checkpoint, and burning it to the ground.

The army checkpoint is located in Al-Sabeel village near Al-Arish. Militants reportedly carried out the attack using rocket-propelled grenade launchers, AK-47 assault rifles, and vehicles laden with explosives.

The Egyptian Armed Forces meanwhile issued a statement saying eight conscripts were killed during the attack; however, a North Sinai journalist told Daily News Egypt that 12 conscripts were killed, and a further 13 injured. “Sinai Province” claimed they had killed 15 army conscripts.
