Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shourky has arrived in New York City to participate in an international summit on Syria on Friday, according to a foreign-ministry statement.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Sunday with a delegation from the US congress at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry. The congressional delegation was headed by congressman Michael Conaway, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.

The meeting was set to touch upon the bilateral relations and fields of cooperation between Egypt and the US, and to discuss the current political situation in several Arab countries, particularly Syria and Libya. They are also expected to discuss counter-terrorism strategies.

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received a delegation from the congress earlier in August. They discussed strategic relations between the two countries. During the president’s participation in the UN general assembly, he also met with congressmen to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

Although the details of Shoukry’s meeting haven’t been made available yet, the delegation’s visit is expected to last for a few days.
