Head of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) Safaa Hegazy ordered the dismissal of the head of the union’s News Department Mostafa Shehata on Tuesday evening for airing an old interview of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, instead of a recent interview with American public broadcaster PBS, according to ERTU’s statement of apology.

The department’s deputy head Khaled Mehanna was promoted to take Shehata’s position until a new head is appointed. Hegazy also ordered the referral of all those involved in the error to the legal affairs department.

The recent interview with PBS took place on Tuesday during Al-Sisi’s presence in New York to attend the 71st session of the United Nations general assembly.

The interview was hosted by TV-host Charlie Rose who discussed various aspects of Egypt’s situation with the president.
