Al-Sisi meets with Japanese official over bilateral relations

Takisawa delivered a message to Al-Sisi from Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe regarding the upcoming Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Kenya

Japan’s vice minister for foreign affairs Motome Takisawa arrived in Egypt on Sunday for a meeting with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Takisawa met with Al-Sisi to deliver a message from Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, according to presidency spokesperson Alaa Youssef.

The message delivered to Al-Sisi contained notes on the forthcoming Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 27-28 August.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the Japanese ambassador in Cairo attended the meeting between Al-Sisi and Takisawa.

The Japanese official praised the successful visit of Al-Sisi to Tokyo in late February, which he said contributed to giving new momentum to the relations between both countries.

He also expressed his country’s keenness in following up on the implementation of agreements reached during the visit to strengthen cooperation with Egypt in all fields.

Egypt is an important economic partner for Japan in Africa, as it is considered a major country on the continent, said Takisawa, who added that there are around 50 Japanese companies in Egypt.

The meeting addressed a number of topics related to the bilateral relations between both countries, including ways to increase the number of Japanese tourists to Egypt.

Al-Sisi visited Japan and South Korea in late February to deepen economic cooperation with the two east Asian countries.
