Djokovic wins the 2016 Mutua Madrid Open’s tennis championship

After winning the 2016 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell’s tennis championship, Spanish Rafael Nadal exited the semifinals of the 2016 Mutua Madrid Open.

Ranked fifth internationally, Nadal lost to the UK’s Andy Murray, who is ranked third internationally, with scores of 5-7, 4-6, and 0-2.

In the tournament’s fnals, Murray lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one player, by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, and 1-2.

In the women’s division, fifth-ranked Romanian player Simona Halep was the tournament champion. In the final match, she defeated Slovakian Dominika Cibulková, ranked 26th internationally, by a score of 6-2, 6-4, and 2-0.

Dutch player Jean-Julien Rojer and Romania’s Horia Tecău won the men’s doubles competition. The two defeated Indian player Rohan Bopanna and Romania’s Florin Mergea in the final match, 2-0.

In the women doubles’ final match, the pair of French nationals Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic defeated Swiss player Martina Hingis and India’s Sania Mirza, 6-4 in both sets.
