Samsung increases the price of mobile, tablet, computer, smart watches

Samsung increased its prices for mobile phones, tablets, computers, and smart watches by 6% to 9.8% during the first quarter (Q1) of this year, January-March 2016.

According to the devices and products price list Samsung sent to its distributors, the price of mobile devices increased by 6% to 7.6%, including the price for the company’s Galaxy S6 Edge mobile phone, which increased from EGP 7,100 to EGP 7,700. Another mobile phone model, the Galaxy S6, increased from EGP 4,900 to EGP 5,200.

Tablets prices were raised by 7% to 7.4%. The Tab 3 price increased from EGP 1,300 to EGP 1,400 and the Tab S2 from EGP 4,900 to EGP 5,200.

The prices of smart watches, such as the Gear S2 Classic, increased from EGP 3,700 to EGP 4,100, a 9.3% increase, while the Gear S2 Sport increased by 9.8%, from EGP 3,500 to EGP 3,900.

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) issued a decision last week to amend the value of the US dollar against the Egyptian pound from EGP 7.73 to EGP 8.95, before the final decrease last Thursday to EGP 8.87.

“Samsung Electronics follows a fair pricing policy in the local market. The recent decision of CBE supports the Egyptian consumer, and the company is committed to providing the latest technologies at competitive prices to serve the Egyptian consumer,” said CCO for Samsung Egypt Sherif Barakat.
