The number of mobile users continues to decline in the Egyptian market for the fourth consecutive month in September as the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) is reviewing the customers’ data and cutting off service for clients with incomplete data.

By the end of September, the number of mobile phone users declined to 93.2 million whereas in August it reached 93.5 million, according to the indicators of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Vodafone continues as the biggest mobile market operator with 38.6 million customers by September, compared to 38.7 million in August, a loss of 100,000 customers in a single month, according to the report.

Mobinil ranked second in terms of number of clients with the support of 32.6 million clients by the end of September.

Etisalat lost over 100,000 customers, bringing the number of their customers to 21.9 million in September, compared to 22.1 million in August.

Last week the NTRA carried out, with the cooperation of communication police, a campaign to stop mobile market violators who sell SIM cards outside the three service operators’ outlets.  The campaign included several areas in Greater Cairo.

The NTRA, along with the communication police, also carried out another 25 campaigns in May in a number of commercial mobile services outlets that are illegally engaged in selling SIM cards.
