Final line up for Davis Cup semi-finals completed

The conflict intensified over the Davis Cup title for 2015, after the quarter-final came to an end, of which the teams from Great Britain, Australia, Argentina and Belgium qualified.

Britain’s team was able to defeat its French counterpart with three victories. The Murray brothers played a significant role in the British team’s qualification to the semi-finals.

In the first round between the two teams, France’s Gilles Simon defeated Britain’s James Ward 1-6, 4-6, 4-6, while in the second round the British player Andy Murray defeated his French competitor Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-7, 6-7, 2-6.

Britain’s Andy Murray and his brother Jamie Murray won the third round, after achieving victory against Nicolas Mahut and his partner Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a result of 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 1-6.

The Australian team passed to the semi-final at Kazakhstan’s expense with a defeat by three to two rounds. The first and second rounds went for Kazakhstan’s team. Mikhail Kukushkin defeated the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 3-6, 3-6, 4-6.

Kazakhstani player Aleksandr Nedovyesv achieved a superb victory against his Australian counterpart Nick Kyrgios by 6-7, 7-6, 6-7, 4-6. Australia’s Sam Groth and Lleyton Hewitt won the third round against Andrey Golubev and his partner Aleksandr Nedovyesov with a result of 4-6, 6-7, 2-6.

The fourth round went to Sam Groth, after he defeated his competitor Mikhail Kukushkin 3-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-7. The confrontations of the two teams in that round came to an end by the victory of Lleyton Hewitt against Kazakhstan’s player Aleksandr Nedovyesov on 6-7, 2-6, 3-6.

The Argentine national team was the third to qualify for the semi-finals, after it defeated Serbia, four rounds to one. Leonardo Mayer started the first round by defeating his Serbian competitor with 4-6, 2-6, 1-6. After that, Argentina’s Federico Delbonis defeated Serbia’s Viktor Troicki in the second round between the two teams with 6-2, 6-2, 4-6, 2-6.

The Argentine team repeated its victory in the tournament against Serbia in the third round when Carlos Berlocq and his teammate Leonardo Mayer defeated Serbia’s Viktor Troicki and Nenad Zimonjić with 2-6, 4-6, 1-6. The Serbian team achieved its only victory in the fourth round, when Dusan Lajovic defeated Diego Schwartzman 4-6, 1-6. Berlocq ended the confrontation of the two teams by defeating Filip Krajinovic 1-6, 3-0, before the latter withdrew due to an injury.

Belgium’s team crushed its Canadian counterpart with five rounds to nothing, joining the semi-final. The Belgian Steve Darcis defeated Canada’s Frank Dancevic 6-3, 1-6, 5-7, 3-6 in the first round of the two teams’ confrontation. In the second round, David Goffin defeated Filip Peliwo with 4-6, 4-6, 2-6, while the third round went to the Belgian duo Ruben Bemelmans and Kimmer Coppejans against Daniel Nestor and Adil Shamasdin with 5-7, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.

As for the fourth round, Kimmer Coppejans defeated Frank Dancevic 6-2, 2-6, 3-6. Steve Darcis ended the confrontation between the two teams and won the fifth round for Belgium, surpassing Filip Peliwo with 4-6, 3-6.

With these results, Great Britain will face Australia, and Argentina and Belgium will face-off in mid-September, in the penultimate round of the tournament.
