The Ministry of Interior confirmed on Tuesday morning that a homemade bomb exploded in Nasr City. No deaths or injuries were reported.

The explosion occurred in Khalif El Zafer Street in Nasr City’s Seventh district, said the ministry. State owned Al-Ahram reported that the explosion occurred near a school.

The ministry said that initial investigations “show that the blast was caused by a homemade explosive in one of the parks in the area.”

Police accompanied by explosive and forensic experts arrived at the scene to carry out investigations and the ministry said “security agencies are intensifying their efforts to determine the circumstances of the incident.”

Nasr City was also the site of the attempted assassination of Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim in September. Sinai based militant group Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis claimed responsibility for the attack, releasing a video of the lead up to the suicide bombing and the explosion itself.
