Two army soldiers and an officer were injured in attacks on seven checkpoints in Sheikh Zuweid in Sinai on Friday.

Unknown gunmen attacked the security checkpoints in Sheikh Zuweid, including the surroundings of the Sheikh Zuweid hospital, the police station and the entrance to the city, during Iftar time, around 6.50pm.

The gunmen used rocket-propelled grenades during the attacks, resulting in the burning of a military tank.

Ambulances could not immediately reach the places where the attacks occurred due to the intensity of the fighting and an eyewitness said the gunmen kept the ambulances from reaching the checkpoints.

The attacks kept residents from leaving their homes and resulted in the closing of businesses, especially in Al-Kawthar area, where most of the attacks took place.

The three injured were transferred to Al-Arish military hospital for treatment.

Two deaths and seven injuries were reported on Thursday in various attacks in Sinai, including an attack on a checkpoint in Sheikh Zuweid and Al-Arish military hospital.
