Unknown assailants riding a motorcycle fired on a Coptic priest in the vicinity of the Al-Masaeed church and fire station in Al-Arish, North Sinai.

A medical source at the Al-Arish public hospital stated that the priest was Father Mina Abud Sharubiyin, 39, who eventually died from gunshots after arriving at the hospital.

A security source stated that Sharubiyin lived in Al-Arish, and that he was targeted while in his car in front of the Al-Masaeed church near the western entrance to the city.

A number of Sharubiyin’s relatives gathered at the hospital, and, in a state of anger and sadness, chanted slogans against religious extremists. They further pointed out that until this point, their relationship with the population of North Sinai had always been good, and that they had never sought to harm or hurt anyone.
