Leave! But not without a prickly pear…

As demonstrations grow and protesters take to the streets all over the country, street vendors find a way to partake while still eking out a living. Stalls, carts and blankets on the ground selling hats, scarves, photos and tea and coffee are everywhere, including the ever-present cotton candy men.

This vendor on Tahrir is wearing a headband that says irhal, or leave, and has planted a large Egyptian flag among the prickly pears, he is selling to protesters. The knife in the picture is not for any acts of violence, but to allow him to peel off the skin, letting you at the juicy fruit inside.
