The robbery occurred in downtown Arish outside the Fire Department’s headquarters on Army Street.

A source close to the Security Directorate of North Sinai said that the criminals fired warning shots into the air before forcibly removing the driver from the vehicle.

The suspects were able to flee the scene in the vehicle, which was carrying the salaries of Civilian Protection Service employees, upwards of EGP 150,000.

The source said that detectives were able to recover the stolen vehicle within an hour, which had been left in a remote region on the outskirts of Arish. The detectives were not able to recover the lost money, and said they would step up their efforts to identity the perpetrators.
