CAIRO: Four members of the April 6 Youth Movement were arrested during a “surprise” demonstration in Sayeda Zeinab, Cairo on Monday evening.

Activists Mahmoud Shoukry, Magdy Abdel-Rahman, Mohamed Abdallah and Selwan Mohamed were held overnight in the Sayeda Zeinab police station.

At the time of press, the Sayeda Zeinab public prosecution office had ordered that the four men be released.

The march, which took place in People’s Assembly speaker Fathi Sorour’s constituency, formed part of the Youth Movement’s “Black Constituency” campaign, which calls on the public to boycott the upcoming People’s Assembly elections.

Earlier this month, 26 activists were detained during a protest in downtown Cairo organized by the April 6 Youth Movement.
