Swine flu death toll over 200

CAIRO: The Ministry of Health announced on Monday the death of six new cases of swine flu (H1N1) virus, raising Egypt’s swine flu death toll to 201.

The recent deaths include a 53-year-old and a 26-year-old man both from Cairo, a-24-year-old man from Helwan, a 38-year-old woman from Menufiya, a 38-year-old woman from Cairo, and 28-year-old woman from North Sinai.

The Menufiya governor announced the closure of an elementary and a secondary school for a week after the confirmation of two suspected cases of swine flu.

The governor also decided to place two medical quarantine rooms under the supervision of the Health Ministry to ensure the cleanliness of the two rooms by strong antiseptics for three consecutive days and to monitor the health of workers and employees who were in direct contact with suspected students.

Health Minister Hatem El-Gabaly recently reduced the closure duration in schools where confirmed cases of swine flu have appeared from two weeks to one week.

This decision was based on the World Health Organization guidelines. He ensured the closure of schools will not proceed without the authorization of the Ministry of Education. -Daily News Egypt
