CAIRO: Egypt forward Ahmed Eid repaid the faith shown in him by making a notable impact after coming on as a second-half substitute in the Pharaohs 2-0 victory over Algeria.

Coach Hassan Shehata introduced him with 15 minutes remaining in a bid to help Egypt, who were leading 1-0 but knew it was not enough to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

The Harras Hodoud man, along with fellow substitutes Mohamed Barakat and Emad Meteb, added impetus to lead the six-time African champions to a late and invaluable win which forced a playoff in Sudan on Wednesday.

I m very happy with that win, but also with the praise I earned from coach Shehata, Eid told FilGoal.com.

The 29-year-old s contribution to Meteb s second goal deep into injury time was crucial.

He darted down the right and whipped in a cross which Algeria defense poorly cleared.

The ball fell to left-back Sayed Moawad, whose cross was superbly headed home by Ahly striker Meteb.

Shehata told me to make the most of the gap behind Algeria left back Nadir Belhadj, Eid added.

I m eager to play in the playoff against Sudan on Wednesday. I m sure Egypt would qualify for the World Cup.
