Prominent Brotherhood leader dies Monday

CAIRO: Deputy leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood gathered at the funeral of lawyer Mohamed Helal, one of the group’s prominent members.

Helal died on Monday and was buried in his hometown of Al-Mansoura.

The Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide Mohamed Mahdy Akef attended the funeral along with his deputy Mohamed Habib, Secretary-General Mahmoud Ezzat and the group’s parliamentary bloc leader Hussein Ibrahim.

Ezzat gave a long speech following the funeral held after Helal was buried on Tuesday.

Helal, who passed away at the age of 90, had joined the group when he was in his 20s.

Helal was the temporary supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood following the death of the previous leader Ma’moun Al-Houdaiby.
