CAIRO: The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Tuesday Mahmoud Al-Sayed, 21, known as the Maadi serial killer, to 45 years in a maximum security prison.

Al-Sayed was charged with attacking nine women using sharp objects, scarring their bodies and sexually assaulting them.

In its ruling, the court said that Al-Sayed caused physical and psychological damage to the nine victims.

The perpetrator was caught in a Maadi building and confessed to his crimes. However, he later denied his confessions in court, claiming they were forcefully extracted from him.

However, medical tests failed to find evidence of violence or assault on Al-Sayed’s body.

On Sunday, the court heard the testimonies of two of the victims, known as Hoda and Mai. Hoda identified Al-Sayed as the perpetrator but Mai failed to do so, saying she could not see the face of the person who assaulted her.

Al-Sayed was serving his mandatory military conscription and also works as a barber.
