CAIRO: Ahly have a called off a friendly game against second-division side Canal Mooring & Lights (CML) after being hit by a string of injuries.

The Red Devils tried to make use of the Egyptian Premier League break by facing CML on Saturday but decided to cancel the game after several key players picked up injuries.

Ahmed Sedik, Sayed Moawad, Shadi Mohamed, Gilberto and Flavio are spending their time in the treatment room for different reasons.

We had no choice but to cancel the game, Ahly assistant coach Hossam Al-Badri told the club s official website on Friday.

We wanted to give the players time to fully recover from their complaints ahead of our African game against Young Africans.

Ahly face Tanzania s Young Africans early next month in the second-leg of the Champions League round of 32.

The defending champions, who aim to win a seventh Champions League title, hold a comfortable advantage from the first leg, having crushed Young Africans 3-0 at Cairo Stadium.
