Mido has been ruled out of Egypt s friendly game against Ghana on Wednesday after sustaining an injury during Wigan Athletic s goalless draw with Fulham.

He suffered a muscle strain and asked to be substituted, Mido s brother Tamer Wasfi told FilGoal.com.

Mido will miss the Ghana game because he needs five days of rest before undergoing physical therapy.

The 25-year-old, who is on loan from Middlesbrough, was replaced shortly before the break, making way for his compatriot Amr Zaki who had just returned from injury.

Wigan coach Steve Bruce was forced to use all three substitutions in the first half as Michael Brown and Antonio Valencia were also injured.

Mido is lucky that Wigan will not play next weekend because they are no longer participating in the FA Cup, Wasfi added.

He will not take part in Wigan s next league game against Middlesbrough because regulations prohibit him from facing his original club, so he will have around three weeks to fully recover.

Egypt coach Hassan Shehata is likely to field Emad Meteb, who plays for Saudi club Ittihad, alongside Zaki in the Pharaohs frontline against Ghana.
